This AJR Hackamore Combination Short Shank Locking Waterford bit or Hack-A-Bit as they are sometimes called is designed for stronger horses. The hackabit cheekpiece is a combination of a hackamore and a leverage bit and gives pressure on the nose, chin, poll, and in the mouth. These bits are often used with very enthusiastic horses in the ring and are not suitable for the inexperienced rider or green horse.
The Locking Waterford mouthpiece offers the trusted flexibility of a Waterford without the usual risks of pinching or palate pressure. Its innovative locking mechanism limits movement to a forward and backward motion only, making it an excellent option for low-palate horses.
By removing vertical play, this “pinchless” design helps avoid any unpleasant pinching or collapsing that can occur in standard Waterfords. The locking mechanism further enhances contact, delivering a more focused mouthpiece action for accurate communication between horse and rider.
This bit has stoppers on the cheekpieces that can be adjusted to any point along the length of the cheekpiece and then tightened to stop the mouthpiece from sliding along the cheek past that point. An allen wrench and a spare stopper are included with this bit.
